There are pros and cons to buying your own alcohol for your reception. If your caterer or venue offers you a decent price per person for alcohol then it you should just use them. If they want to charge you an outrageous price, then you’re better off buying your own if it is an option. A good way to figure out how much alcohol you should get is to start by assuming that each guest will have about two drinks per hour. You get 4 glasses of wine/champagne per bottle, 12 bottles per case, 24 beers per case and about 40 shots per 750ml bottle of liquor. You can also get kegs instead of bottled beer to save money. From there you can decide which brands you would like and which fit in your budget. Also, do not forget about mixers! When you buy alcohol on your own, you can usually price it out to be around $10 per guest. If you are trying to stick to a budget you can create a small drink menu with some signature drinks and offer beer and wine. By only having signature drinks, you only have to buy a few kinds of liquor. If you can get everything for the bar for less than $10 per person, that’s a pretty good deal! The wedding alcohol calculator can help you figure out the amount of alcohol that you should buy for your reception. You can find it at http://www.thealcoholcalculator.com/.

Wedding cakes have long been the traditional dessert for a wedding. Some people are starting to venture away from traditional and think outside the box with a dessert table. You can still have cake, but you can also offer many other desserts so that your guests have a variety to choose from. Some people prefer other types of desserts over cake. By having an assortment you can ensure that everyone will enjoy the desserts as well as have more than one kind to choose from! You can even go as far as to match your dessert to your wedding colors. Some things other than cake that can go on the dessert table are cookies, pies, macaroons, chocolate covered pretzels, candies, pastries, cupcakes, brownies, bars and much more! Here are a few really nice examples of dessert tables:

Yesterday was Groundhog's Day and since then I have a new favorite animal, Woody the Woodchuck! Woody reportedly didn't see her shadow, which means, springtime is near! (source: Detroit Free Press) On the occasion of these wonderful news I want to show you ideas for spring cocktails (as found on pizzazzerie.com) that can accompany your party with colors and flavor.

If you like your cocktails a little lighter, just replace a portion of an alcoholic ingredient with larger portions of juice or soda.

1. Tropical Blue Margarita

 1 1/2 oz Tequila

1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur

1 oz lime juice

coarse salt

Rub rim of cocktail glass with lime juice. Dip rim in coarse salt. Shake tequila, blue curacao, and lime juice with ice, strain into the salt-rimmed glass, and serve.

2. Pink Lemonade Cocktail (serves 4-6)

1 (12-oz.) can frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed

3 (12-oz.) bottles beer (not dark), chilled

3/4 cup vodka, chilled

Ice
Garnishes: fresh cranberries, citrus slices

3. Passion Fruit Mojitos
Combine in a pitcher 2 parts Passion Fruit Mojito mix, 1 part white rum, and ice. Mix, then pour into ice-filled glasses. Top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with a mint sprig and a lime slice.

4. Raspberry Beer Cocktails (serves 6)

3/4 cup frozen raspberries

3 1/2 (12-oz.) bottles beer, chilled

1 (12-oz.) container frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate, thawed

1/2 cup vodka
Garnish: lemon and lime slices
Stir together first 4 ingredients. Serve over ice.

5. Kiwi Colada (serves 6)

5 peeled kiwifruit, divided
3 cups ice
1/4 cup light rum

1/4 cup Midori (melon-flavored liqueur)

3 tablespoons Cream of Coconut (such as Coco Lopez)

1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple in juice, undrained

6. Blackberry Julep (serves 1)

1 1/2 oz. Marie Brizard Blackberry

1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice

1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

1 oz. Water

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a glass filled crushed ice. Stir until the glass begins to frost. Garnish with marinated mixed berries

Holiday time is the perfect time to pamper your loved ones and yourself with delicious treats. The ones you can see below are very easy to make and leave a great impression.

Reindeer cupcakes: Start with simple chocolate cupcakes and decorate it with white frosting, red M&Ms, chocolate drops and small pretzels! It's really that easy.
Hot cocoa served in small wine glasses, topped with whipped cream and a waffle. Just line a platter with wadding and christmas ornaments. Tadaahh!
Here you can use an easy cupcake recipe again. For the decoration you only need strawberries and white frosting. This is my favorite cupcake!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!

Want to score huge for your guests? Guests love late night snacks. After hours of dancing and drinking, guests are ready for a late night snack. It could be as simple as ordering pizzas to be delivered at a certain time. You could win their hearts by having a nacho bar with a huge spread of toppings or a hot dog station with a ton of toppings, even chili and cheese. If you want something a little more extravagant you could have mini burgers made to order with all the toppings to choose from. If these options seem a little heavy how about gourmet popcorn or even rent a fair-type popcorn maker. You can take the fair idea further by renting  hot dog  and cotton candy machines. Don't forget to hire someone to run the machines too. If you really want to wow your guests with something they have never seen before, how about a hot dog cart or sandwich truck waiting outside the reception when guests leave?

Everyone probably already knows that I LOVE anything mini. Something about anything mini is adorable and it always seems to taste better. A dessert table full of mini desserts would be a huge hit! I found my inspiration at bakerella.com

Cake pops, pie pops, or both? Cake pops have been very popular, but what about pie pops. You can have any flavor, perhaps cherry filling for a summer wedding or apple filling for a fall wedding. You can serve them after dinner or wrap them for favors. You can even make them yourself. Check out Bakerella for instructions.

Just Baked recently teamed up with Faygo to create "POP" cakes. Just Baked is a Michigan made company that makes really yummy cupcakes. Of course Faygo is also a Michigan made company too. They are sold in 6-packs in orange, grape, and red pop flavors. You can find them at Just Baked as well as Busch's, Hiller's, and Westborn Markets. Has anyone tried them yet?
